Security Council Topic 1:
Dealing with terrorism within the Sahel region of Africa
The Sahel region of Africa faces a complex security landscape, where extremist groups exploit political instability, weak governance, and economic marginalization to carry out attacks and recruit members. Terrorism in this region threatens civilian safety, disrupts development, and exacerbates humanitarian crises. The United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel works alongside the African Union and regional coalitions to support counterterrorism operations, promote stabilization, and strengthen governance. Dealing with terrorism in the Sahel requires a multi-faceted approach that combines security measures with socioeconomic development, regional cooperation, and community resilience to address the root causes of extremism.
Security Council Topic 2:
Implementing preventive measures upon global water wars and the weaponization of water
Freshwater scarcity, unequal access, and transboundary disputes have raised the risk of water becoming both a strategic resource and a potential instrument of conflict. Experts warn that competition over rivers, aquifers, and reservoirs could escalate into localized or regional “water wars,” threatening human security, agriculture, and economic stability. The United Nations Water emphasizes the need for cooperative water management, while the World Bank highlights the role of sustainable infrastructure and diplomacy in preventing disputes. Implementing preventive measures against global water wars and the weaponization of water requires legally binding agreements, equitable resource-sharing frameworks, early-warning systems, and investment in resilient water governance.

Hi!
My name is Yolanda Yuanyang Gao, and I’m a senior from Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID). I am incredibly honoured to be able to serve as your president for this year’s DISMUN.
I’ve been doing MUN for the past four years, and this will be my 17th conference, my 7th as chair. Hopefully, we’ll have an insightful and productive discussion regarding the topic.

Greetings, delegates!
My name is Ethan Zhu, a senior at the Shanghai SMIC Private School, and it is my honor to serve as your Deputy President of the Security Council. DISMUN II will mark my 8th conference as a chair and my topic of focus water wars.
Within the committee room, I personally value progress with a resolution. This means more amendments, speedy POIs, and quality speeches that make a genuine change throughout debate.
Lastly, as someone who has attended conferences all across Asia, from to YaleMUN Korea in Seoul to even running my own conference (SMICMUN) here in Shanghai, I am well versed in both the THIMUN and UNA-USA debate format.
